In 2014 NSW State Forests were reopened to hunting under strict conditions. Hunting is not permitted near picnic and camping areas or where forestry operations are taking place, but note that that walking tracks may cross areas where hunting is taking place. Hunting is not permitted in National Parks except in limited circumstances where hunters are supervised by NPWS staff.
Consult the Forestry Corporation of NSW Hunting Exclusion Zone Maps or the Department of Industries Game Licensing Unit for maps showing details of hunting exclusion zones and a list of forests which permit hunting.
Hunters are required to give the Game Licensing Unit one clear day’s notice for a written booking permitting them to hunt. For example if a licensed hunter books a written permission at any time on a Thursday, the written permission allowing them to hunt will be issued from Saturday. Friday is one clear day to allow for Forestry Corporation of NSW (FCNSW) operational changes.
There is currently no formal alert service for bushwalkers.
